RSS feeds

The two feeds that I chose are a recipe feed from Taste.com.au and Australian government news and media releases.

You can subscribe to these rss feeds via email or the feedburner of your choice.

RSS feeds are a way of updating subscribers of the latest announcements at your library. They could be set up for different areas – in a public library there could be a childrens rss feed which could alert parents of new books/dvd’s/activities. There could be a teen one that could talk about the upcoming teen events – eg Teen nights, new games, activities. In this context RSS feeds are a great way of pushing information out to your subscribers.

A library can also use them to pull information in - via subscribing to particular subjects from specific organisations. The issue with these feeds is that you have no control over what may be entering the library site with these feeds so there may have to be a form of moderating their content before they are loaded publicly rather than just a direct feed.
