Social media strategy and policy

One of the main learnings that I gained from the readings in module four is the strong need to develop a social media plan and policy before you begin to build a social media profile. This includes a strategy for how you are to engage with your peers/clients/broader community and how you manage those engagements.

Website design

I have come across Eastern regional library network as part of research for another course and this web page makes we wish I was a member! I belong to the City of Sydney library and their web page is less than inspiring. The list of criteria that I have devised are not that dissimilar to those of Mathews (2009) but also incorporate some of the points raised by Lazaris (2009)  and Schrier (2011) and the ERL page ticks just about every box.

Second life

I have created an avatar using Second life. I have to say I am not getting the hang of it.
I found moving around very frustrating and I was not really sure of what I was doing. I appreciate that this is user incompetence and not necessarily the programme. I have to say that after a few frustrating attempts, I have given up! The first life is busy and frustrating enough without having a frustrating virtual version as well!

RSS feeds

The two feeds that I chose are a recipe feed from Taste.com.au and Australian government news and media releases.

Delicious

Delicous is a great tool to be able to store bookmarks that can be retrieved from anywhere. Tagging allows you to group bookmarks according to subject, so they stop being just a list of tags, but an organised group. You are also able to use the tags that others are using to be able to find new resources or join networks to access their tags as well as add your own.
